An otherwise attractive face may appear asymmetrical or flawed because of a large or misshaped nose. A talented plastic surgeon can reshape your nose to provide a pleasing balance to your face through cosmetic nose surgery, technically called rhinoplasty. People from Columbia, Jefferson City, and throughout mid-Missouri are well-served by Dr. John J. Seaberg, an experienced surgeon with a delicate touch who can sculpt the nose you desire.

THANK YOU! There isn't a thing I would change at all about my results! If I knew now that I would be this satisfied I'd pay double.
Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
A nose job is one of the most popular surgical cosmetic procedures among men and women under 35. Even minor adjustments can greatly refine your appearance because the nose is the most prominent facial feature. Anyone dissatisfied with their nose’s appearance may be a candidate for a nose job, as long as they’re generally healthy. Teenagers younger than 16 or 17 should consider delaying the surgery because their noses may not be fully formed. People typically seek cosmetic nose surgery to:
- Straighten the bridge
- Reshape the tip
- Reduce or add to the overall size
- Change the angle between the nose and upper lip
Rhinoplasty isn’t performed only for cosmetic reasons. Chronic breathing problems caused by structural issues – such as a deviated septum – can be corrected through nose surgery. If nonsurgical treatments haven’t improved your breathing, you are likely a good candidate for rhinoplasty.
Your Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty can be either closed or open, depending on the degree of correction needed. Dr. Seaberg will decide on the best approach after discussing your goals for the procedure.
- Closed rhinoplasty is completed with incisions made inside the nostrils.
- Open rhinoplasty is performed with a small incision across the skin between the nostrils (called the columella) for better access to the interior bone and cartilage.
To reshape the nose, Dr. Seaberg sculpts the underlying framework. In some cases, he will augment certain areas using a small amount of cartilage, typically taken from elsewhere in the nose. Depending on the extent of surgery required, the rhinoplasty can be completed using local or general anesthesia. Some patients getting a nose job also elect to complete their facial rejuvenation with injectable fillers or chin implants done at the same time.
It will take about a week to 10 days before you can return to your normal daily activities. It’s helpful to remember that bruising and swelling after the procedure are normal. Swelling will gradually dissipate, but the full effect of the surgery may not be seen for up to a year.
Your Rhinoplasty Consultation
Your consultation with Dr. Seaberg is where successful surgery begins. Besides taking your personal health history and performing a thorough physical examination, the surgeon will discuss your goals for the nose surgery. Realistic expectations are one of the key factors in being satisfied with the results of any cosmetic surgery. The consultation generally lasts between 45 and 90 minutes and will include detailed pre- and post-operative instructions.Back to Top
