Most people lose volume in their faces as they age. The fine lines and deep wrinkles that result can be treated with injectable dermal fillers by Columbia plastic surgeon Dr. John J. Seaberg. Fillers are gels used to add volume to specific areas of the face. In the hands of an experienced surgeon such as Dr. Seaberg, fillers produce natural-looking results and can enhance or restore your youthful appearance.
Facial rejuvenation can boost your self-confidence. If you are thinking about getting filler injections, request a consultation online, or call Dr. Seaberg's office at (573) 443-5500 to schedule an appointment at his Columbia practice.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?
Just about anyone concerned about the wrinkles, fine lines, and creases that accompany aging can benefit from fillers. One of the most popular dermal fillers with our Jefferson City and Columbia patients is JUVÉDERM®. This versatile hyaluronic acid-based gel is smoother than most other fillers. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found naturally in your body, so there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction. Since JUVÉDERM is smoother than similar fillers, it is especially useful on the fine lines and creases found around the mouth. It also produces fuller lips that look natural. Some of the most common results of injecting fillers are:
- Added volume for underdeveloped cheeks
- Filling of deep creases, such as nasolabial folds, often called "smile lines"
- Smoothing of fine lines around the mouth, or marionette lines
- Lip augmentation
At Dr. Seaberg's Columbia office, injections of JUVÉDERM are sometimes combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as chemical peels or BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Fillers are also considered an alternative to such surgical procedures as brow lifts, eyelid surgery, and chin and cheek implants.
Minimally invasive dermal filler procedures usually take about an hour at Dr. Seaberg's office. Some injections contain painkillers to lessen any discomfort. JUVÉDERM, for instance, contains lidocaine, an anesthetic. Before the injection, the doctor may first mark targeted areas of your skin, depending on the goals of the procedure. Then, the filler material is injected through a thin needle to fill in lines and wrinkles. Patients may leave the office immediately after the injection process, and the treated area does not require bandages.
The First Step
When you initially meet Dr. Seaberg, he will assess your skin tone and ask about your cosmetic goals. It's also a good time to talk about other parts of your appearance that you might be concerned about now or are thinking about improving in the future. Dr. Seaberg will spend as much time as necessary to answer your questions and explain the injectable procedure.
